We are a Denver Indie Bookshop focused on creating a warm, welcoming, safe, and fun shopping experience for bookworms young and old! Offering a wide variety of the newest releases, newly discovered and old childhood favorites, perfect gifts for everyone in your life, and excellent additions to your TBR pile.
Started in November 2014 by a teacher who had a dream of making sure every child found the right book for them. Dea, and her husband Marc, created a magical space for the community. With a focus in the Children’s Book World, Second Star has been a host to many joy filled events from picture book authors/illustrators storytimes and events to Drag Queen Storytime, fairy hunts, Alice in Wonderland tea parties, and so much other magic. Everyone who has stepped through these doors knows they have a place in Dea’s heart.
Over the past ten years, we have seen many changes at Second Star from a new location to an amazing growth within our community to a new owner. Joe took over Second Star in April 2025, and with an extensive background in the book world, a super chill guy, and an avid reader, Second Star will still be a special place for all kinds of book lovers.
Our bookstore seeks to embrace the entire Colorado community of readers, dreamers and believers and will hopefully become a part of your everyday life. We look forward to seeing and meeting you very soon!

Meet the characters of our mural:
Henriette is our good friend, the Octopus. She usually has a book, or two on hand. The Moon, better known as Mr. Clementine, prefers stories taking place during the day. Tress the Tree is typically reading Brandon Sanderson, while her friend Serafina the Star loves poetry. And of course, we can't forget the Cloud Siblings. Claudette there above the mountains is always reading about dragons. Her brother Claud, yes the one next to Mr. Clementine, never likes to tell anyone what he's reading. Oh you're right, we forgot about Larry! They're the one next to Henriette, and like to read stories about cats. And we can't forget about Coco! The one down in front, peaking over their book, always curious to know what you are reading.
