Fallout New Vegas Remaster Hopes Go Into Overdrive - And Immediately Crash and Burn - IGN Daily Fix
4 months
-
In today's Daily Fix:An inocuous social media post from developer Iron Galaxy sent Fallout fans into overdrive when everyone assumed the post was teasing a Fallout: New Vegas remaster. Iron Galaxy immediately denied anything of the sort, explaining that the Fallout image they used was one they have used in internal meetings for years, and they did not intend to tease work on a Fallout game. In other news, a new Game of Thrones project is "firmly' in development at Warner Bros.—this one a movie potentially featuring a character that has yet to appear in any of the WB-produced shows. And finally, Xbox Game Pass Wave 1 titles for March have been announced, with Cyberpunk 2077 headlining.

Oblivion Shows Remakes Could Be Key to Bethesda Getting Back on Track
1 year, 2 months

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is here, and it’s a hit, showing players are more than happy to make return trips to some of Bethesda’s older open worlds, in case that wasn’t readily apparent based on how many people bought Skyrim more than once. But this is good news! Bethesda Game Studios’ last original open-world RPG outing was Starfield, which was certainly ambitious, but didn’t quite have players over the moon with joy. Before that was Fallout 76, which has since sorted itself out, but only after a very rough launch. The Elder Scrolls VI is still years away, and Fallout 5 even further out than that, so perhaps more remakes like Oblivion are the answer to stoke the fires of Bethesda fandom, and help build anticipation for the next installments in these storied series. A Fallout 3 Remake (or remaster) has been all-but-confirmed, and if that’s possible, an overhauled New Vegas would be welcomed with open arms. Meanwhile, giving The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind a remaster of the same quality as Oblivion would be a major undertaking, so what’re the alternatives?

The explosive popularity of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has us once again debating which of Bethesda Game Studios’ role playing games is the best? Some have shown their age more than others, but they’re all genuinely unique in their own way, and bring something different to the table, so we put our heads together to pick a definitive clear cut champion. From the early days of Tamriel in The Elder Scrolls: Arena and its shockingly ambitious sequel, The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, and through the modern installments we all know and love like Morrowind and Skyrim, to Bethesda’s more futuristic offerings, Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76, plus the most recent addition of Starfield. It sounds like we may very well see a Fallout 3 Remastered or Remake before The Elder Scrolls VI sees the light of day, and Fallout 5 is still a long long way off, so hopefully this list is as future proof as a radiation-resistant underground vault. No matter what, there’ll surely be plenty of debate over the top three. But hey, even though it wasn’t technically Bethesda, at least we gave New Vegas some love.

The Switch Is Now Nintendo's Longest-Running Console Without a Replacement - IGN Daily Fix
1 year, 11 months
-
In today's Daily Fix: The Nintendo Switch has broken records left and right since its launch in 2017, and it's continuing to do so. The hybrid console now has the title of 'longest-running console without a replacement' in Nintendo's history, going for 2,688 days and counting. The NES had a run of 2,686 days but the Super Nintendo was launched in the 90's to overtake it. A successor has not yet been announced, so the Switch will be adding to its record until then. In other news, the original 2D Fallout 3 is now playable thanks to a mod for Fallout 2. The 2D Fallout 3 was never released as development was switched to a 3D perspective. And finally, Analogue has launched another version of its popular Analogue Pocket, this time in all aluminum and sporting a hefty price tag.

Fallout Games Get a 5 Million Player Boost from the TV Series - IGN Daily Fix
2 years, 2 months

In today's Daily Fix: The success of Prime Video's Fallout series has not only earned it a second season, but the game franchise saw a significant bump in activity since the show debuted. Overall, 5 million players logged in some time across all the Fallout games, including the original non-Bethesda entries. Fallout 76 in particular saw one million players wandering the Wasteland in a single day. Quite the turnaround for a game that had a very rough launch. In other news, Valve has closed a loophole in their refund policy that went beyond the 2-hour window Valve normally allows. And we take a look at a hot sauce inspired by everyone's favorite Sith.
