UWaterloo SE26 Inaugural Hackathon!

This hackathon is casual, just a fun even to get to know each other and improve our coding skills. Don't lose sleep over it, just come up with an interesting/funny idea, and spend a few hours on it when you can.

On September 5th the *secret theme* will be revealed, and you will have 2 days to complete a coding project based on this theme! It can be anything from a video game, to a website, to an app, to a text interface in terminal. Watch the opening ceremonies here at 12: https://youtu.be/0WxgjJM528k

Whether you create a full-stack web app, or you are just working in the python shell, there is a chance you can win one of the prizes available. Read our judging criteria section for more information about what your goal should be!

Judging Criteria

  • Theme
Make sure your project closely follows the secret theme. More points for being closer to the theme!
  • Code
Whether your code is a website covered in libraries and frameworks or pure python, we want to see the impressiveness of your code and that it isn't buggy. Winner: Best code
  • Creativity
While you want to make sure to stick to the theme, come up with creative, crazy ideas. Creative does not always mean good, but this category is just points for ridiculousness! Winner: Most creative
  • Presentation
Your video presentation and README are very important. "Put make-up on the pig" to make your project look better than it is, while having an engaging and entertaining presentation. Winner: Best presentation
  • Funny
If your hack makes the judges laugh, or the presentation has a comedic twist, you can score extra points here! Winner: Funniest hack
