    About SciTechDaily

SciTechDaily offers the best intelligent, informed science and technology coverage and analysis you can find on a daily basis, sourcing a huge range of great writers and excellent research institutes. It was founded in 1998 by Vicki Hyde, a friend of Denis Dutton (of Arts & Letters Daily fame) and was essentially a sister site to ALDaily.com. The idea was to link to the most thought-provoking, well researched online items in the world of science and technology. (Originally, this site was known as SciTech Daily Review, but it was simplified to SciTechDaily in 2011. The address has always remained SciTechDaily.com.) It is owned by DailyeDeals Inc.

The New York Times coined a new term for SciTech Daily Review, calling it a “porthole” site, as opposed to a traditional “portal” site. This was because view is concentrated into a specific area of interest, and NY Times proclaimed that this approach represented a major new Internet trend. Not bad recognition for a site that at that time had only been online for three days! In 1999, the Independent said we were the “best science news site currently.”

Two years on and SciTechDaily was lucky enough to find a marriage of like minds in the form of science media Closer to Truth initiative. An alliance was formed to boldly go forth and spread the word of the role of science and technology in society. It explored fundamental issues of the universe, brain/mind, religion, meaning and purpose through intimate, candid conversations with leading scientists, philosophers, scholars, theologians and creative thinkers of all kinds. It was more than a five-year mission.

In 2002, SciTechDaily.com was selected as one of five final nominations in the Science Category for a Webby Award. The main award, decided by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Ultimately, Becoming Human won the Science Webby and the NASA Earth Observatory won the People’s Voice award, but it was still an honor to be up for nomination competing with the likes of NASA.

We continued to grow, and in 2011, DailyeDeals Inc. took ownership of the site, implementing major changes in format and design. Instead of being a daily updated digest of the most relevant science links (the New York Times and others referred to us as essentially a Drudge Report for science and technology), we began publishing science and technology articles directly. We continue our selective focus on the best science and technology breakthroughs, assuring great coverage of the most important science events and research. Instead of a single editor, we grew into a team of editors with the experience to meticulously select the most important and informative subjects for publication.

Our stories are frequently republished and linked to throughout the web. Find us in Yahoo News, Fark, ArsTechnica, Futurism, and many other popular sites.
