Layman E. Scott Snr. High School (LSHS) celebrated its annual Career Fair on Friday, 20 March 2026, at the Aston Rutty Centre, welcoming over 40 local business entities and approximately 140 partners. The event, themed “Pathways to Success: Exploring Careers, Building Futures”, offered students from Years 6 to Year 12 a unique opportunity to explore career options and
engage with potential employers.The Department of Education Services (DES) is aware of an incident involving a secondary school student and a contracted school bus driver on Wednesday afternoon (18 March). The matter is currently being investigated.
The Department of Education Services (DES) will be CLOSED from 12:00 pm on Tuesday, 24 March 2026 to facilitate a staff meeting.

The Department of Education Services (DES) is the operational arm of the Cayman Islands Government education service.
While the Ministry of Education provides the strategic and policy direction for Government schools, DES provides the resources and support to schools to implement the various policies and procedures.
The Department of Education Services (DES) is the Cayman Islands Ministry of Education’s operational arm for government schools, and is aimed at empowering every child to become responsible, productive, lifelong learners who are engaged citizens within the global community. It consists of the following sections/units: Data and Testing, Registration/Communication Services, School Improvement, Facilities, and Business Services, and is responsible for the following:
- Support school improvement and raising standards through the implementation of Ministerial policies.
- Development and implementation of operational level policies and the effective management of the day to day operation of government schools.
