The Culinary Arts program at SCCS is a fine art elective offered for high school students. Packed with learning, hands-on labs, and plenty of fun, this course gives students real-world kitchen skills grounded in creativity and stewardship.

Food Safety & Sanitation

Students learn proper food handling, kitchen safety protocols, and sanitation practices.

Cooking & Baking

From knife skills to baking techniques to food science, students build real kitchen confidence.

Nutrition & Menu Planning

Basic concepts of nutrition, menu making, portions, and international cuisine.

Presentation & Design

Artistic expression through food presentation, menu design, and critical assessments.

What You'll Learn

This class covers food safety and sanitation, kitchen equipment, kitchen tools, and many food preparation skills. Students learn the basic concepts of nutrition, table setting, etiquette, as well as menu planning and portions.

Students also explore the science behind menu making, international cuisine, the history of food and its cultural importance, the importance of critical assessments, and artistic expression through food presentation and menu design.
