This is the result of insomnia, backreading ontd_ai, missing Photoshop, and several glasses of wine.
(ETA: Re-watching that performance, the boots and shoulder thingies look black and not bronze-ish, like they did in the reference I used. Blame the surprising lack of good quality pictures!)
Hi! I'm not around much at the moment, because offline life is busy and I'm not really doing anything fannish (except having caught up with Doctor Who, which I stopped watching in early season three, but my thoughts on this are many and disjointed and I don't feel like trying to bring them into any sort of coherent form). To prove that I'm not dead, here are some more graveyard photos!
Shiva, Kerstin, Christoph and I visited Südwestkirchhof Stahnsdorf yesterday, a huge cemetery from the early 20th century. It belonged to East Germany and fell into disrepair, and now it's mostly a forest with withered gravestones, mausoleums and fountains scattered throughout - all quiet and peaceful and really beautiful. I originally wanted to go because the British military cemetery that is located within the graveyard is supposed to be haunted, but other parts turned out to be much more interesting
In other and completely unrelated news: less than a week before I'll be heading to the Balkans with morningfine! :D If everything goes as planned (and it'd better!) we'll fly to Athens on Saturday, take the bus to Gjirokastër and make our way through Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Croatia to fly back from Zagreb on the 16th. WORDS CAN NOT CONTAIN HOW EXCITED I AM. Is it Saturday yet?
There's been a lot of new street art popping up in our neighbourhood lately and some of it is really pretty, so I thought I'd share. Maybe Wedding is really becoming the new hip district, like everyone has claimed for years. *lol*
In fannish news, shiroi_chi got me to watch "Band of Brothers" (I can't even say why I've not seen it before, considering I love war movies) and I might be a bit in love already. Unfortunate side effect: when I was woken up by a bad thunderstorm this morning, my brain refused to parse the sounds as anything but bombs for a few minutes. /o\ Not a good way to start the day.
"To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
- C.S. Lewis (Of whom I'm not a big fan, but I love this quote.)
In honour of Pride, Queerics is hosting a give-away, and they asked (among other options) for a post on a queer artist that "melts your heart." So I decided to make the Epic Klaus Nomi Pimp Post I've been meaning to do for ages.
Sadly, it's not going to be all that epic, because his career was short and ended with his untimely death. But please give this fantastically queer, fantastically strange performer a chance, anyway.
So now you know Klaus Nomi, one of the most interesting queer artists of the last few decades. Now go and join the Queerics give-away and make some queer music posts of your own!
I'm late again, but it's from the heart: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, lennongirl! ♥ And on time: Happy Birthday, lily_liedtome!
I owe more comments than I can count, but for now I need to say bye for the weekend. If anyone needs me, I'll be at Parada Równości, aka Warsaw Pride. :D There will be twittering, as usual, and should crazed Catholics burn me at the stake I'm sure someone will let you know. Have a lovely weekend!
Along the Spree in Friedrichshain district a stretch of the Berlin Wall, the so-called East Side Gallery was preserved and painted by artists as a memorial. Over the years, the painting have cracked and faded, and tourists and Berliners alike have added their own little graffiti - quotes, names, greetings, the usual. I love the way that those inscriptions have made it a bit of a memorial to the many different people in this city as well, and when I heard that the city was planning on restoring the original paintings, I kept meaning to go to the Gallery and take some pictures of my favourite graffiti, before they were removed. Last night I had an hour to kill in the area before meeting up with paraka*, so I went down there. Sadly, half of the wall has already been cleaned, but I want to share some of what could be found on there. Image-heavy!
Not on LJ, don't worry. ;) I was really, really sick of my username at last.fm, and since they don't have an option for changing it, I registered a new one:
I'm pretty sure I added everyone I had friended as wideocean, but if I somehow missed you or we didn't have each other added yet, please feel free to add me! :)
So, FOB show last night! It was pretty good, with a surprisingly unfaily audience. (At least where I was standing, I never know what it's like for others.)
01. This visualization of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is beautiful. (And it makes me sad, because it makes you realize how few of these rights are actually observed, across the world but even in our supposedly educated, free Western world. Right to marriage, anyone?)
02. Completely unrelated, a random thought that I had on the train home from work: Which three instruments would you most like to learn how to play? I realized that mine would be the drums, accordion and theremin. *facepalm* Hey, why learn something easy and/or practical?
03. We ended up skipping the Kill Hannah show last night, because we were too beat. Instead we watched "Planet Terror" (I hadn't seen it before, and it's fantastic!) and some Mighty Boosh. I'd say we're the lamest, if we didn't have other stuff lined up. (FOB tomorrow! :D )
The show last night was amazing. Too many support acts, not playing two off my favourite songs off the album ("Runs in the Family" and "Oasis") and the kind of lame Berlin audience* didn't even matter.
So, anyway, conclusion: Amanda Fucking Palmer is the best, as is Jason Webley, The Danger Ensemble are brilliant and make me jealous, Zoe Keating and Lyndon Chester make beautiful music, and Battle Circus are pretty and I could definitely appreciate their music in a different environment. Also, Katie Kay is ridiculously gorgeous.
*Re: Berlin's audiences - As much as I love this city, people at shows tends to be really lame. I don't get it, we definitely know how to party, but at most concerts everyone just seems to stand around and nod their heads. :-/
First of all, sorry for being so antisocial lately. I read pretty much everything, but I'm comment-blocked to the point where I type three paragraphs and then decide that it's stupid and don't post it. *facepalm*
And last but not least, the Sweet Charity auction starts today, 2 p.m. GMT! I signed up, after all, so if you want, you can bid on a bunch of custom icons/header/CD covers/flyers/etc. as well as my services translating your English texts into German (or proofreading your German homework ;) ). This round, all proceeds go to Invisible Children.
rain_dances posted something done in ArtPad, and it reminded me of an old meme I did in 2005 (so long ago, wow), and because this is pretty much the first flash game that doesn't slow my work computer down, I'm ressurrecting it:
Comment and I'll draw you a pic (in Art Pad this time), based on one or more of your interests!
Or feel free to prompt me, if you'd prefer that. It's Monday morning, there's a long week ahead...
ETA: Why am I at work? Why can't I listen to the stuff on FOE right now? LIFE HARDEST. :(
