Hiking Program

Enjoy being outdoors with a dog but don’t necessarily want to adopt?

Our hiking program is a great way for both you and a shelter buddy to get some exercise.

We all know that exercise is good for us and dogs are no exception. A hike provides an excellent opportunity for leash manner practice, socialization, and experience with a pack. Most of our dogs have not had regular walks with a leash and harness and you can help them learn!

We hike on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (part of the NC Parks System), which has an access point near our property.

If the weather or trail conditions do not allow for a safe hike, you will be notified by email at earliest notice. There are 3-mile and 4-mile (seasonal) hike opportunities available.

Pre-registration is required and the participation fee is $15 to hike and includes a harnessed dog to walk. Choose a hike from the calendar below to register.

NOTE: You must be 18 yrs old to walk a dog on your own.

Please make sure to park at the Harris Teeter and walk over, the check in table is located in our parking lot by the front gates.
