How It Works

The Journey in Four Simple Steps

Our journeys are built around people, and we do our best to bring together travelers who share common passions and a similar stage of life.

Step 1: Choose Your Journey

Browse our trips in Japan. Find the journey that speaks to you.

Creating Your Trip Together Profile

Step 2: Apply and Get Matched

Submit your request. Through our onboarding process, we get to know you — your travel style, interests, and preferences. We then match you with a small group of 8 to 12 like-minded, age-aligned travelers.

Step 3: Confirm Your Spot

Once your group is set, we’ll guide you through the booking process. A deposit secures your place and the balance is due closer to departure. All logistics are handled so you can focus on the experience ahead.

Step 4: Travel and Stay Connected

Join your trip. Arrive as part of a carefully curated group, experience a journey of wellness and culture, and leave with friendships that continue in our alumni community.

How We Create Each Group

A SatoriCamp journey begins long before you arrive in Japan. We believe that the quality of the group shapes the depth of the experience. For this reason, we do not place people into trips at random.

A Personal Discovery Call

Before confirming your place, we speak with you personally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the journeys for?

Our journeys are for people aged 40 to 60 who seek mindful travel in Japan and value shared experiences and personal growth with like-minded people.

What is included in the price?

The retreat price includes accommodation, daily wellness sessions (such as yoga or meditation), cultural activities, group transfers within the itinerary, most meals, and guided support throughout the trip. International flights and travel insurance are not included.

How many people will be in my group?

Each group is designed for 8 to 12 travelers. If the minimum of 8 participants is not met, the retreat will be canceled and all deposits will be refunded.

How do you match travelers into groups?

We collect key information during the onboarding process and hold a short discovery call with all participants. This ensures each group has a good balance of people in similar age ranges, with compatible interests and outlooks.

Do I need any prior experience or knowledge of meditation or Zen Buddhism?

No. The journeys are designed so anyone can join, regardless of skill or experience. Each participant can engage at their own level.

What kind of accommodations can I expect?

Most of our journeys feature traditional Japanese ryokan, with some journeys we stay at hotel accommodations, typically four-star or higher.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. All participants must show proof of travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and trip interruptions.

What is your cancellation policy?
    • 185+ days before departure: Deposit is retained by SatoriCamp
    • 95-184 days before the departure: 20% of the total price or the deposit is retained if higher
    • 65-94 days before the departure: 50% of the total price
    • 35-64 days before departure: 75% of the total price
    • 0-34 days before departure: 100% of the total price
What happens if the trip doesn’t reach the minimum group size?

If a trip is canceled due to low numbers, all deposits will be fully refunded.

Can I join alone or do I need to bring a friend?

You are welcome to join solo. Many of our travelers do, and you’ll leave with new friends. If you invite a friend to join, you’ll both receive a 10% discount.

How fit do I need to be?

Most retreats include light to moderate activity such as walking, yoga, or gentle hiking. You should be comfortable moving daily, but you don’t need to be an athlete. If an activity feels too challenging, there will always be alternatives so you can adjust your level.
