Our Approach

Satellite Bio has built a sustainable and scalable supply of mature human hepatocytes using donor livers and a proprietary cGMP expansion process. This approach preserves hepatocyte identity, metabolic activity and engraftment capability while enabling unprecedented scale.


A single donor organ can generate enough hepatocytes to treat thousands of patients, overcoming historical limitations in availability, cost and consistency that have prevented hepatocyte therapies from becoming commercially viable.

    Hepatocyte Expansion

    Satellite Bio is the first company to establish proprietary protocols that allow us to effectively isolate, expand and mature primary hepatocyte cells in-house. This cutting-edge process yields mature cells capable of effective engraftment and functions as primary hepatocytes in vivo.

    From a single liver, we can produce enough cells to potentially treat thousands of individuals with advanced liver disease.

    Seed Development

    We’ve pioneered the creation of Tissue Seeds, which are heterocellular aggregates comprised of our expanded hepatocytes and supportive cells. This precise blend enables optimal engraftment and function of the hepatocyte outside of the liver. By engineering this microenvironment, our Tissue Seeds ensure the survival and functionality of the hepatocytes, as validated across various animal models.

    Industrialized Manufacturing

    Satellite Bio’s team of experts has optimized the production, formulation and cryopreservation of our cell-based therapies, with a scalable, xeno-free, cost-effective and cGMP-compliant process that produces stable, cryopreserved drug products. This proprietary approach enables a far-reaching distribution of the stable drug product from a centralized manufacturing facility. Satellite Bio’s products are truly off-the-shelf advanced therapies, but with the practicality and cost profile of a traditional drug.
