Mental Health and College Applications

During this time of year, college applications open, meaning the air is filled with stress, eagerness, and fear. I too am currently experiencing the college admission process, and it's truly terrifying, especially when you have a dream college that you've loved since 4th grade and it receives thousands of applications from high-status students. I read the following linked article: it gives healthy ways to cope with the rejection and stress that emerge when applying to colleges.

Social Anxiety

In this entry, I will simply be talking about my own experience having social anxiety and some ways I try to cope with it. Keep in mind I am not a psychologist or therapist (yet).

In 3rd,4th, and 5th grade I was labeled as the class clown always laughing and making jokes but only I seemed to recognize the growing fear within me of socializing outside of my classroom. Continuing to 6th grade I lost nearly all the capability to speak outside of my specific homeroom class getting to the point where I feared playing at recess at times. Now, let's address middle school I would've socially crashed much earlier if it wasn't for my outgoing cousin that I began hanging around and sports I would argue my socializing skills peaked during middle school not because I had many friends but due to me not caring of what was thought of me at times.

New Book Reads

So throughout the summer I've been ATTEMPTING to read 3 books a month. I want to introduce my 3 August books some you may have heard of(specifically in the news) and others most likely not.

  1. Lets start off with the one you may have never heard of or have any interest in reading being that it's an educational textbook. The book Psychology for living by Garlie A. Forehand, Althea J. Horner, H. Sorenson, and M.Malm was given to me by my therapist she received the books in the 80's or 90's along with two other books I'll be reading next month. I will use the three books to prepare for college psychology courses.

TeenPsych intro

Hello! Welcome I will be starting this journal to talk about my personal interest and daily thoughts within the field of psychology, and theology. This is a very bland description of the amazing things this journal will produce. I've never done anything like this so I hope that everyone(if there is ever anyone) will enjoy seeing the growth of this journal over time. Please let me know if there are any additional topics you want to be discussed doesn't have to be within psych or theo. Thanks for viewing!
