Sapphic Utopia was borne out of the realisation that sapphic women are disconnected and disparate; yet also hugely connected in pockets.

New entrepreneurs and independent authors, creators and businesses start every year but struggle to reach their audiencce, and struggle to get funding because sapphic is seen as “niche”.

The reality is that a minimum of 11 million women worldwide are over 16 and do not identify as heterosexual. Obviously due to not being out for a variety of reasons, this number is also likely to be significantly under the reality. But where are we all? How do we identify and connect with each other?

We believe there is a huge amount of loyalty within our community, and a desire for us to be more accessible. There is also huge untapped potential and success within our community. 2023 is likely to be challenging economically for small businesses and for individuals. So we wanted to do something to support our community.

So here it is!!!

The history behind Sapphic Utopia

Sapphic Utopia is the brainchild of Naomi Bennett and Catie Lake.

Naomi Bennett is a cis lesbian entrepreneur who has been working with grass roots lesbian & bisexual women, promoters and entrepreneurs since around 2011. She has always sought to empower, and collaborate. She is a proud amplifier and connector.

However she has noticed that many sapphic small businesses launch and fail; that there is little support.

Her latest venture, Lesflicks saw her trying to collaborate with several organisations without success. It seems that gatekeeping and holding onto power are real issues preventing progression and growth.

Sapphic Utopia is designed to bring together sapphic organisations that believe we are stronger together. That believe in collaboration and support.
