Sally Najera Romero is a librarian that supports students in achieving their educational goals through an inclusive environment. Her mission is to provide instruction, guidance and services promoting information literacy focusing on student success within an environment of integrity and respect.
She is currently an Associate Librarian and Head of Research & Instruction Services at California State Polytechnic, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona). Sally focuses and supports the College of Education and Integrative Studies as the Education Librarian. She worked many years in public libraries then later began her professional career in academic libraries.
Sally’s parents are from Merida, Yucatan, Mexico and come from Maya descent. Her parents immigrated to the U.S. and later become naturalized citizens. Sally is a U.S. citizen, Spanish speaker, and is spritual and culturally religious. She is a mother scholar with three beautiful children and a husband. She identifies as a cisgender, heterosexual, non-disabled woman.
Sally is a first-generation college student. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communications with an emphasis in Advertising from California State University, Fullerton and her master’s degree in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University. She received her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Cal Poly Pomona.
Sally has led several programming initiatives and believes in playing an integral role in the intellectual and cultural life of an institution by facilitating the transformation of information through knowledge using core values such as integrity, diversity, community inclusion, student focus, and lifelong learning. Sally is passionate about supporting her community and has been involved in various library and campus initiatives at Cal Poly Pomona that support the education and well-being of a diverse campus community including but not limited to co-founding the Library’s Belonging, Accessibility, Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Committee (originally known as the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee), co-creating the Bronco Family Space inside the University Library, participating as a member of the campus Parenting Student Support Team, and co-founding the campus Parenting Faculty group. Through her commitment in teaching, outreach and mentoring, she hopes to foster an environment of life-long learning that contributes to student success.
Her research interests within higher education include student sense of belonging, Latina/o/x students, parenting students, librarians of color, Latina/o/x librarians, and parenting faculty.
