Salina Tech’s Electrical Technology Program can help you break into this industry by giving you the skills you need to install, maintain and repair even the most complex residential, commercial and industrial electrical systems. From blueprint reading and motor control, to advanced automation and circuits, our graduates leave prepared to pass the Journeyman’s Exam and begin pursuing a rewarding career as a certified electrician in a field of their choice. Students will also complete the OSHA-10 and KS Work Ready certifications during the program. 

After years of real-world work experience, many electricians go on to start their own electrical business, where they earn a great living working for homeowners, industrial facilities, telecommunications companies and construction firms, among many others.

Definition: A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to install, operate, maintain, and repair electric apparatus and systems such as residential, commercial, and industrial electric-power wiring; and DC and AC motors, controls, and electrical distribution panels. Includes instruction in the principles of electronics and electrical systems, wiring, power transmission, safety, industrial and household appliances, job estimation, electrical testing and inspection, and applicable codes and standards.

The Electrical Technology Alignment was originally approved by the Kansas Board of Regents on December 16, 2013. During the 2017-2018 academic year, faculty requested the program be realigned. On February 22, 2018 the Technical Education Authority approved the amended Electrical Technology alignment. Colleges are granted one year from the approval date to implement the alignment.
