Open House Announcement

Saturday 23rd/Sunday 24th May (the weekend before we attend Exeter show) we will be holding an open-house at Hittisleigh village hall – Hittisleigh is located just a short distance from the A30, part way between Exeter and Okehampton:

Click here for the location on Google Maps – Be aware there is no credible public transport to this location due to it’s rural nature.

The venue will be open from 10.00AM until 4.30PM (or maybe even longer if we’re having fun!)

Admission is FREE! But donations to the upkeep of the hall are welcome.

The local village ladies will be selling tea’s, coffee’s and cakes – and if you’re dragging along a partner who isn’t into trains then there is a craft display a short walk to the North at the village church.

More Freightcars…

With RS Tower soaking up over 500 freightcars on average at a show, and with us running multiple era’s we’re always adding to the fleet, both to add the kind of unending variety that the real railroad offers, to tailor the fleet to the industries on the layout and to gradually upgrade the look and detail of the cars that appear.

First up, Neil Rogers has added some of the new Athearn “beer can” tanks, these are all-new models with some nice fine detail, and excellent little cars for space starved layouts! Click on the pic for larger images…

Next up we have a couple of new freightcars in my fleet….

Update…

Quick update for the day – the Exhibitions page has been updated with details of the Exeter show in late May, and Neil’s Oakdale modules going to the Gillingham show in June.

Grade crossings and module progress

We’ve just started working on grade crossing protection and signalling – images of the progress so far can be found on the fotopic site:

Neil Rogers is also working hard on his first two 45 degree curve modules – pics can be found at his fotopic site here: http://neil-rogers.fotopic.net/c1644146.html

Enjoy!

Happy Christmas to you all!

I figured that I’d better do a pre-Christmas update, as i’ve yet again been patently rubbish at writing these!

So – here we go:

Post Andover photo’s – part 1

Well, the Andover show went pretty well, very few problems with the layout and it seemed very well received – many thanks to our extra operators for the weekend as well, you were a great help!

Speaking of the extra operators, Gareth shot some photo’s at the end of play on Sunday and he’s gradually getting some of them processed and online. Well worth a look!

Just two weeks to Andover

We had a final work session this weekend in preparation for the Andover Show – click here for show details – i’ve uploaded a few photo’s from this weekend to the layout’s fotopic site to hopefully whet your appetites as well – hope to see some of you there.

Neil Rogers also has some photo’s on his site here.

One show down, and one to come…

So, if you’ve been paying attention to this infrequently updated blog you’ll have noticed the quick youtube bits I uploaded from the Sunday at Exeter (if you haven’t been paying attention, scroll back through the last few posts to catch up!) and you’ll have noticed one of them caught a minor derailment as the train passed.

This entry is really about “the boring stuff”, the everyday fiddling with the basics of the layout to (attempt to) get boringly reliable running. I tend to sit in the camp where ideally we should never have to think about the operation of points, motors or electrics once we have them installed.

A little less conversation, a little more action…

Here’s another of our youtube clips, a SOO SD40-2 leads a CP Rail SD40-2 (in an SD45 carbody) north onto the street running with a unit steel coil train. Enjoy!

Alco high-hood switcher from Atlas?

An interesting post from the Milepost 15 blog showing a pre-production Alco high-hood switcher from Atlas! Neat, would make a superb grain silo switcher.

The link is here, it’s worth looking back through the other posts as well, the Railflyer EMD parts look to be an intriguing way of building a loco.
