On Jan 2nd we finally got the snow I've been hoping for. I wish there'd been more. It was enough to make the dogs and I happy. :>

An ice storm crept its way across the area over the weekend. Thankfully, it was not as bad as feared. (Though that wasn't the case for everyone in the region).

It was really beautiful, but I kept wishing for snow.

Ravi and I

Ravi and I took the dogs on a trip to MD and D.C. this summer. Here we are in the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. The Archives of the United States of America are in the background.

Blossoms on my neighbor's tree at sunrise. Branches hang over into my yard.

Unfortunately, recent storms have caused the top-heavy branches to sag and finally split near the base. I suspect once the weather changes and my neighbor begins clean-up this tree will be gone. I will miss it.

A 2010 report from United Nations Environment Program’s (UNEP) International Panel of Sustainable Resource Management, states that global shift towards a vegan diet is critical for mitigating global issues of hunger, fuel poverty and the worst impacts of climate change. The panel declared: “Impacts from agriculture are expected to increase substantially due to population growth and increasing consumption of animal products. Unlike fossil fuels, it is difficult to look for alternatives: people have to eat. A substantial reduction of impacts would only be possible with a substantial worldwide diet change, away from animal products.”

“Millions of tons of GE soya are exported every year from Argentina for cattle feed, while millions of Argentineans go hungry.”
