The American version of roulette originated in US riverboat casinos in the 19th century. It has two important differences that distinguish it from other roulette variants. The first of these is a special bet called “basket”, which covers five numbers (0, 00, 1, 2, 3) and offers a winning chance of 13,20%. The other is the addition of another zero pocket (00) on the wheel, while other variants have only one zero (0).

Due to this additional pocket, the American version has a total of 38 (1-36 + 0 + 00) numbers and the house edge is slightly increased (5.26%), which also drops the RTP (94.74%). Here, you can find detailed and easy-to-understand info about American roulette, and we recommend that you try it risk-free with an American roulette simulator before you start playing for real money.

American Roulette Online Game Bets, Payouts, and Odds

All of the traditional roulette bets are also available here. The only difference is the basket bet mentioned above. In the standard version of American variant, there are no side bets or multiplier payouts. Your basic options are inside bets (straight, split, street, square, basket, line) and outside bets (column/dozen, low/high, red/black, odd/even). The highest payout is 1 to 35 and the lowest is 1 to 1. In both land-based and online versions of the game, outside bets offer a higher chance to win.

American Roulette Wheel Numbers and Sequence

In American roulette, the layout of numbers on the wheel differs from its European counterpart, prominently featuring two zero pockets: 0 and 00.

The sequence of numbers on the American roulette wheel is as follows:

0, 28, 9, 26, 30, 11, 7, 20, 32, 17, 5, 22, 34, 15, 3, 24, 36, 13, 1, 00, 27, 10, 25, 29, 12, 8, 19, 31, 18, 6, 21, 33, 16, 4, 23, 35, 14, 2.

The numbers are distributed with an emphasis on creating a mix of low (1-18) and high (19-36) values, while the presence of the two zeroes increases the house edge.

Learn to Play American Roulette Online

The gameplay is like any other variant of roulette. Basically, you can bet on a single number, a sequence of numbers, odd/even numbers, or a colour (red - black). There is also a bet called basket, which is only available in this variant. This bet is for the combination 0, 00, 1, 2, 3. To start playing:

  • Choose a game: you can pick a variant with the surrender rule or standard American roulette.
  • Pick a chip to represent your bet, choose an outcome, and place your chips on it. You can place multiple bets at the same time.
  • Press the Spin button if you are playing against the computer. If you are playing live roulette, wait for the croupier to start the round (and spin the wheel).
  • Wait for the wheel to stop and the winning number/colour to be determined.

If you have won, the payout will be made automatically. The payout amount will vary depending on your stake and bet type. Play again or collect your winnings.
