I’ve been a SQL Server DBA for quite a while. My first upgrade was from 6.5 to 7. It was a thrilling event, in an attic with about 6 individual servers humming away. The good news, though, was that a year later we had an actual data center, complete with air conditioning! The servers were almost as happy as I was.
Currently, I work as a full time employee in a small IT department in Minneapolis. I am the team lead, with 3 to 4 DBAs working with me, at any given time.
Over the years I have had the privilege of working with some amazing people, on a variety of fascinating puzzles. My goal here is to relate those experiences in the hope that both my triumphs and mistakes will possibly shed light on any issues other DBAs are struggling with.
