Community Access Program

The Community Access Program (CAP) allows community-based organizations who serve audiences traditionally underserved by museums, to visit the RMSC Museum & Science Center, RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium, and RMSC Cumming Nature Center.

Organizations must serve individuals in the counties of Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne, Wyoming, or Yates.

Qualifying organizations receive the following benefits:

  • Two reusable passes so organizations can bring groups of the people they serve to the RMSC at free or reduced admission. 
  • Free admission to the Museum & Science Center and Cumming Nature Center
  • Free admission to Strasenburgh Planetarium public star shows and discounted admission to laser shows and featured presentations

Organizations must provide a completed application with verification of their 501(c)3 status, and serve at least one of the following audiences: 

  • Indigenous communities and individuals
  • Refugees and immigrants, including undocumented immigrants
  • LGBTQIA+ identified groups
  • At-risk youth
  • Low-income individuals
  • Unhoused individuals
  • Disabled and neurodiverse individuals
  • Survivors of abuse
  • Formerly incarcerated individuals

Does the Community access program get us into all rmsc facilitIes? *

Your group receives:


● Free general admission to the RMSC Museum & Science Center
● Free public star shows at the RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium
● Free admission to the RMSC Cumming Nature Center
● Discounted admission to feature presentations and laser shows at the Strasenburgh Planetarium

*Admission benefits are subject to change. Additional charges apply for Museum & Science Center traveling exhibits.

Do we have to call in advance to come in with a group?

Yes, please! If your group is larger than 10 people, has special needs, or needs to secure tickets to a Strasenburgh Planetarium show, please call 585.271.4320 at least 5 days in advance to make a reservation.

How do we check in when we arrive?

Please check in at the welcome center of any of the facilities you visit. Present the staff member with your Community Access Program membership card and provide an exact count of the number of people in your party.

Do children need to be superviseD?

There must be one adult chaperone for every 5 children in your party.

How many passes will we receive a year?

Each community organization will receive two reusable membership cards per qualifying program.

Do community access program membership cards expire?

Community Access Program memberships expire every 3 years. Please note that in situations where there are multiple branches or locations for one branch, each branch or location must qualify individually.
