Welcome to my personal website!

I’m Rita Pucci, a researcher in machine learning in computer vision. I am enrolled as an Assistant Professor at Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS) at the University of Leiden (NL) in Computational Biodiversity. My position is jointly between LIACS in the Bio-imaging cluster and the Naturalis Biodiversity Center at the Marine Biodiversity group. We develop new models for animal Biodiversity understanding and monitoring through multimodal models grounded on images. Before I was at the University of Udine in the Machine Learning and Perception Lab as a PostDoc in theoretical machine learning for Computer Vision.

I am really interested in the interdisciplinary world of Computer science combined with the study of animal behaviour in the wild. Since I started my PhD, I’ve been focusing on applying Machine Learning methods to classify signals from accelerometers and images from camera traps. By ad-hoc bio-logging procedures, I tried to identify the activities of animals in their own environment. Why did I choose this combination? The easy answer is that this research field makes it possible for me to be closer to nature and animals (whom I love since I was a child). The less easy answer is that I think it is interesting to find a new way to observe animals and describe their world, thus I’m always pleased and curious to start new projects on this topic.

For further information, do not hesitate to contact me in person, by phone or by mail.

Enjoy your life.

Rita
