ABOUT

Welcome to RissiWrites.com aka Culture Characteristics.

Starting in 2011, through the years this space has been many things and seen many “faces,” but through it all, one thing we remain is a space to share what we’re writing and review what we’re watching.

All of which happens and presents in a very nonformal way. In other words, these lists, editorials or reviews are written first and foremost from the perspective of a story aficionado. This means, that I don’t pretend to be and am not trying to be a critic.

If you’d like to know a little more about this blog, then we hope this page will help introduce you to the things that earn a feature, and give you a better idea of what you’ll find here.

We believe in storytelling, and more importantly the human element of stories; and the impact it can have on a person and culture. While there has also been change in storytelling and conversation about what that change should look like, we continue to try to look at the positive side of the “art” of storytelling.

The romances of Margaret Hale and John Thornton as well as Jamie Reagan and Eddie Jenko are stories we love, but a solid mystery story also intrigues us. Heroic leading men will never be out of style here. We believe that women are heroines capable of many great things. We also love fairytales, and seeing a good guy rescue the heroine. We believe that men and women both have unique and wonderful and important strengths that complement each other which shouldn’t be depicted in culture or storytelling at the expense of weakening the other.

This space looks at and features stories from all different genres, and from different mediums.

Some of our favorite cultural topics or mediums to write about include:

Conversation about Pop Culture

Curated Lists

Memorable Moments between Favorite Film and TV Couples

Period Dramas

On RissiWrites.com, you’ll find the following content plus more

Conversation which includes writeups on interesting stories like Emily Blunt’s thoughts on female characters or an Opinion on the Barbie film

Film and TV Reviews including popular blockbusters and indie titles you may not normally hear about, plus, since we do love to dig into what impact a story can have, yes, we do review films that are now considered vintage. all of which is written from the casual perspective of a story aficionado

Lists including character lists (like best characters in politics or best roommates) and film lists

Period Drama which is mostly reviews of the popular and indie titles we see, but can include news about upcoming titles

Pop Culture when each week we cover the headline stories in the sphere

Romantic Favorites when we share a list of the best or our favorite moments between TV couples like Eddie and Jamie from Blue Bloods or Joe and Helen from Wings

Streaming and TV News which can include monthly schedules of popular networks (mostly from Hallmark) and lists about the best period drama on Prime Video

This is an overview of what you’ll see here. We invite you to stay a while, and hope you enjoy our content.
