Board

The Public Libraries Act (RSO, 1990), which is a provincial statute, designates Library Boards as governing boards.

The Act grants boards with the authority to make policy and to govern the library’s affairs.

The Rideau Lakes Public Library Board sets and follows the Board Bylaws (PDF).

For the most part, library boards:

  • determine which services are offered by the library
  • seek funds through the Municipal Council’s budget
  • seek additional funding and grants
  • appoint a Chief Executive Officer

Meetings & Minutes

The Board usually meets at the Portland Branch small meeting room, 24 Water St. Portland the fourth Thursday of the month, except July and December.

Please consult our event calendar for specific times and for changing circumstances.

In keeping best practices for public access to Board meetings, the Board is following a hybrid meeting format with both in person and virtually using Teams videoconferencing.

Please contact Vicki 2 days prior for a link to attend as Board meetings are open to the public but we are following Teams security guidelines.
