“Street-corner ‘Cue On Friday Nights”

Titusville street food:

half-slab vinegar spare ribs

and two soft white clouds*!

*(modern code en(farce)ment has all but completely quashed this South’ren Tradition of street-corner barbecue ribs, heavy on the vinegar-red pepper mop, served with two slices of the cheapest possible white bread.  Hot sauce on request!  The short walk from the Titusville town stadium – Draa Field – to the newspaper office – Star-Aggravate {advocate} went right by the county courthouse with a gas station right hard by the railroad tracks some three blocks from the paper…I stopped for two sandwiches, shared a beer with the pitmaster, told him the score and if any of his kids or friends kids either did well or raised hell and wished him well before I went to do my sports writerly thing.  What a shame health and pristine fly- and mosquito-lessness killed off a poor Black Man’s beer money and my taste for his ‘cue)

“Murder And Manslaughter”

A beautiful beer

with a wicked, horrid name:

mord und totschlag*!

*(murder and manslaughter, a schwarzbier(sp?) from Kyritzer, gifted to me first by Theo Hollerbach at Magnolia Square Market in downtown Sanford, Florida, just steps from his family’s Hollerbach’s Willow Tree Café.  I had been complaining I could not find the doppelback (double bock) Celebrator from Ayinger on his shelves.  M&T more than mollified and in a month both beers were on-offer.  Bless the man!  My dad taught me about San Francisco, California’s Anchor Steam and I instructed myself in Anchor Brewery’s other offerings, especially Anchor Porter, which I place both Mord und Totschlag and Celebrator among my trinity of dark beers.  Must-tries, all!)

The Hass People keep claiming

that small, harsh fruit best!

Florida’s: rich, buttery –

their wrinkly one is so small!
