*(Once knew an “honest” economics teacher in college who, when pressed, admitted that his field was full of charlatans. They’d use all kinds of mathematical proofs to explain the ups and downs of the markets they studied, and Wall Street was a favored playground. When I asked if all those high-falutin’ “tests” could be used to predict what would The Market do next, he’d grin and gulp his gin-n-tonic and say: “Nope! Nary a oncet!” And that fact remains true today: economics is a social science with pretentions of “Hard.” They just wanna sit with the big boys and girls in Physics, Chemistry and such in the faculty lounges, And That’s The Truuff!)
