Snowflake challenge: day 7

Day 6 will come, but this day has been so ridicously busy... and that on my off day.

Day 7

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I love the 'against all odds' thing. Be it in romance, drama what say you, but yeah. Interesting enough, the tv-trope link shows all kinds of examples of war scenarios. When writing drama/angst, I do think that 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger' is very true. But how to go about it, how do you overcome it and at what cost. I like to put my characters through the wringer as I did with Morwen in Unconquered, or with Finrod reborn before he can surrender himself to the love of his life in How to love him.

Motif wise I love to read and explore the following: Beauty of simplicity, Character – destruction, building up, Circle of life, Coming of age, Communication – verbal and nonverbal, Companionship as salvation, Darkness and light, Facing darkness, Facing reality, Fading beauty, Faith versus doubt, Injustice, Loss of innocence, Lost honor, Lost love, Love and sacrifice, Man against nature, Overcoming – fear, weakness, vice, Vulnerability of the strong, War – glory, necessity, pain, tragedy, Will to survive and Wisdom of experience.

I think I've done all of those before and when reading, a piece will get bonuspoints from me.

Just some recs that have something of the above:
weathering by Elleth, Season of Hope by Keiliss, House of the Setting Sun by Robinka, Of Mithrellas by Urloth, The Elendilmir by pandemonium_213, The Work of Small Hands by Dawn Felagund, Moving Mountains by Silvermoonlady or Whispers in the stream by Jenni..

:) And many many more...

Snowflake Challenge day 5

Day 5

In your own space, talk about your fannish origin story. How did you come to fandom, why did you choose your fannish name, do you have more than one secret identity? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I am slowly catching up. I know it is day 12 already, so here I am at a snail pace. :D so ye all gather around the fire...Collapse )

Day Four

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"

It doesn't have to be anything complex - it can be feedback for a fanwork or discussing something you might have in common or even simply admiring their icon. The point is to reach out to someone you normally wouldn't and connect with them, even if it's only for the briefest moment.

Dipping into a new world for me, thank you ysabetwordsmith for linking me up to The Urusulan Cycle, a genderbent Arthurian Cycle. Left a first review here.

Snowflake Challenge day 3

Work has been very hectic... I fell asleep on the couch last night with still so much to do. The weekend was spent on checking php codes to figure out why e-mails were not sent...

Anyhows:

Day 3

In your own space, talk about your creative process - from what inspires you to what motivates you to how you manage to break through blocks. Does your process change depending on the type of creating you're doing?

My creative process... my creative process (with photo's!Collapse )

Day 2

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

Remember that you can ask for whatever you want - icons, ficlets with specific relationships, a beta, art, haiku, interpretive dance, whatever. And note that it's at least three things...have fun with it.

1. I'd like for some people that I miss to return. Granted... I am not that much either due to either mod responsibilities and RL. But I miss certain people. Of some I know that RL is overwhelming too, but I miss Isil's romance stories, I miss Binka's Doriatrim stories, Neume's horselord things... just to start with.

2. I do like to see how more femslash is written. Of course Elleth and her crew work hard on Tumblr to create a friendly atmosphere for people to go to, but it feels like becoming slowly more mainstream besides the big bro m/m. I'd love to see more people either writing or reading it.

3. Everyone loves to receive artwork based on their stories, of course. Who wouldn't :) I am such a lemming.

Hmm.. there you have it!
Happy New Year everyone! Our son survived the fireworks crazy fest that the Dutch are so overly fond of and was sent to bed with his headphone. He grew so terse throughout the day, poor kid, but hopefully folks will keep to the new regulations set. We'll see.

Anyway, I am participating in the Snowflake Challenge. I noticed it too late last year and like a true lemming, I followed talullahred when she signed up :)

Snowflake Challenge Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

My recsCollapse )
No, I haven't forgotten about this particular 100 blogs thing, the challenge still stands but I also have to actually find time to write things, like many things I still want to write and do, but are still being placed on the backburner.

But today I came across this video that explains the journey I have travelled for the past 7 years or so, and will of course continue because, well I have this wonderful boy in my life, my son who has special needs.

So there you are, this vid and well she puts it really really well, also just like us, she is raising a child with a speech and language impairment:

I realise that for so many here on my f-list it is business as usual. But over here it isn't.

Thank you sweet binkaslibrary for sharing with us in that grief. Your e-mail meant a lot to me. You feel and know our pain.

Many of them are coming home, other nationalities hopefully soon when identified. At least now treated with respect.

First casualties arrive on Eindhoven Airport, the Netherlands. Still many to come.

The end of a long week

It has been a helluvah week, over here we just have one week devoted to autism, I know that across the pond it is a full month.

Also, I am still devoted to complete the 100 things: a blogging challenge, devoted to autism and related stuff. But stuff has been rather hectic here. But I was working on some mythbusting autism fables blogs the past months (when I had the time and energy), so who knows ;) I have been asked to write an article for the magazine for autism (Dutch) because my first contribution was very muchly liked by many. However this time I am writing about Language and Speech Disorders (my son's 2nd handicap) in relation to autism. It is hinted at that it will become a series of articles, so at least I am doing some writing. Go me.

Anyway, as this day dwindled down, my daughter claimed some mommy and me time, so we spent half an hour chatting about everything she had on her mind (ranging from some awesome yellow playing dough to whether or not Jesus was alive now since it wasn't Good Friday, yes I know... big things on her mind for a five year old). These are moments to cherish. However my son simply walked up, hugged me very tight and simply said 'Mommy, I love you very much'

So for him, I'll end this day with Joe Cocker - You are so beautiful to me.

You are so beautiful to me
You are so beautiful to me
Can't you see
Your everything I hoped for
Your everything I need
You are so beautiful to me

Such joy and happiness you bring
Such joy and happiness you bring
Like a dream
A guiding light that shines in the night
Heavens gift to me
You are so beautiful to me

The beauty of life lies in the small, yet oh so genuine things.
