A.P.E is an experimental short indie game that balance between different genres of horror, simulation and perception game.

It was made as a side project form student game jam titled "Organic".

The design of this game aims to create uncomfortable and pressured feeling in the player, who battles the speeding up tempo and cognitive dissonance created by slow change in imagery.

Your goal is to identify an organic (plant, animal, human) form or object in the pictures shown on the screen. You can choose only one picture at a time between the time interval indicated by sound and light elements.

Choosing the wrong image will increase the error counter. 3 errors ends the game, but you can replay as much as you like. There are 3 stages with 5 rounds each, all of them present different set of object appearing randomly in each gameplay. The final score represents the number of passed rounds.

The tempo increases, as the amount of images you will choose from. Changing your selection is possible within the round period.

All controls by Left Mouse Button.

I hope you enjoy this small project! Let me know of any suggestions, or comments you have, and see you in the next game  ( β—₯β—£ u β—’β—€ )

You really nailed the aesthetic, good job. :)

I actually like the fact that it doesn't forget the rounds survived between attempts - as a kind of "inverse score" (it took me 128 total rounds to succeed).

It's interesting how the third round goes too fast - my mind keeps focusing on all the heads and bodies and almost missed the pretty birds entirely.

Thank you so much! Yup sometimes the game is too fast even for me c:

GOD DAMITTTT, I LOVE THIS.

I like a lot both concept and asthetics. The only two things I would improve are the visuals (its perfect, but can be better with few more overlays and a parallax) and the way the images are displayed.

Despite that, this game was a good experience, and the style you gave it is just perfect. And that game logo... Please don't of this game die!

Pd: I played in phone, so maybe there are some things that I missed when playing, but it is indeed a good experience

⸜(q˃ α΅• Λ‚ )⸝♑  This means so much to me! Thank youuu for those kind words! It was a quick one month project so I agree that the visuals could be pushed even further. I will take this advice into my newest game, and try to amp things up! Happy that playing on mobile is still doable :) All the best!

I will keep in touch to see your game, for sure playing it. See you in the future!

A little bug: the number of rounds survived doesn't reset between restarts.
