About Me

My name is Anthony Bale; I am a medievalist at Birkbeck, University of London blogging about Calvary, Jerusalem, and medieval copies, simulacra and memories of them. Blogging connected to my AHRC-funded Research Network: Remembered Places and Invented Traditions: Thinking About Jerusalem in the Later Middle Ages.

The image at the top of the blog is the view of Jerusalem from Nabi Samwil, known to the crusaders as Mount Joy. Unless otherwise noted, all photos on the site were taken by me, and can be used freely (though an acknowledgement to me, Anthony Bale, would be nice).
