Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) represents a significant increasing health burden worldwide. It is also one of the most common cancers with metastatic potential. Set apart by a high tumor mutational burden, SCC otherwise classically presents as an epithelial malignancy. Various risk genes act in conjunction with stromal interactions and local immunomodulation — ultraviolet (UV)–induced sun damage in particular — to drive disease progression in patients with SCC, enabling continuous tumor growth. For these reasons, prognosis remains poor for advanced cases. However, preventive and therapeutic measures for SCC are associated with clinical benefit, making early diagnosis critical.

Find out whether you are prepared to diagnose, stage, treat, and manage SCC in your patients with this short quiz.
