Histrionic personality disorder, sometimes called dramatic personality disorder, is among the Cluster B personality disorders. This psychiatric disorder is characterized by a pattern of exaggerated attention-seeking behaviors and emotionality. Other Cluster B personality disorders include antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, and narcissistic personality disorder, which are commonly described as excitable, erratic, or volatile. However, patients with histrionic personality disorder exhibit unique behaviors, which can be charming, flirtatious, lively, manipulative, or seductive. Associated especially with somatoform disorders, histrionic traits are also linked with important comorbidities that clinicians should know, and this would help them treat patients with histrionic personality disorder.

Are you prepared to identify and treat histrionic personality disorder and distinguish it from other Cluster B diagnoses in patients? Find out with this short quiz.
