I asked if I could touch
you were still warm
in places

I was scared if I hugged you too tight
you would break
as if you were the one that were fragile

you asked
how do I look
I said
alive
and shook

I wanted to touch
but not feel you
I did not want to know
which places were now cold

the lilt of your voice soft like a ribbon
cut a slow path like a tear
the words however
unclear

you were a dream
whose movements and strides
outpaced my own

you were a dream
a figure of glass
fading back into sand

a specter worthy
of the blinding phone light
to attempt to remember
in the middle of the night

non living proof
that I could still love
