Mastering Exposure Strategies in DBT – Kathryn Patrick Butts, LCSW, DBT-LBC

    Mastering Exposure Strategies in DBT

This four-hour course will provide an overview of Exposure Strategies as used in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, including how to enhance in-session exposure procedures, both informally and systematically, and how to determine what type of exposure is necessary given the clinical targets being addressed.

The course will be taught in two 2-hour sections over two weeks.

The first section will focus on providing the foundational knowledge of exposure strategies/protocols, how to assess for what type of exposure is needed, and how to orient and gain commitment from clients to engage with exposure procedures both in- and out-of-session.

The second week we will focus on providing practices therapists can use with their teams to ensure high-level skills in implementing more exposure procedures into their clinical sessions, and bolstering therapists abilities to navigate common challenges that arise when clients present with more avoidant behaviors or inhibited emotional experiencing.  This workshop is designed for DBT therapists who work with clients that avoid emotions or have difficulty accessing and expressing them. It’s especially suited for clinicians who are already familiar with exposure as a DBT change strategy and want to strengthen their ability to use it more confidently, skillfully, and effectively in their clinical work.

    Learning Objectives:
After attending this training, participants will be able to:

    • Describe the theoretical principles of exposure-based interventions.
    • Evaluate your own implementation of in-session exposure strategies and procedures.
    • Orient and enhance commitment of clients who would benefit from increased exposure procedures in and out of sessions.

Trainer Bio:  Kathryn Patrick Butts has 13+ years providing direct consulting/supervision of DBT therapists and teams providing comprehensive DBT services and foundational and topic-specific trainings in DBT. She has been a Linehan-Board Certified DBT clinician since 2019, and provides DBT therapist in her private private practice.

Clinically Ever After – Neurodivergence, Misfit Narratives, and Clinical Reimagining

Where Clinical Education Meets a Little Magic
Clinically Ever After is an intentionally designed clinical experience for therapists who have always sensed there’s more than one right way to do this work.

In 2027, we’re centering neurodivergence through a Disney lens, drawing on story, metaphor, lived experience, and clinical expertise to examine therapy, systems, leadership, and what truly supports different brains in both clinical practice and entrepreneurship as a therapist.

This conference was created for clinicians who notice patterns others miss, who think laterally, who question default frameworks, and who are curious about doing therapy through fit rather than force. It’s for those who value imagination and creativity, curiosity and flexibility, depth and delight.
