Wheelchairs, Scooters and Strollers
There are six access ramps located outside the museum building. Transport-style wheelchairs are available for use within the museum on a first-come, first-served basis. These are available the box office in the main lobby, and they are receiving enhanced cleaning measures.
All floors of the museum can be reached by elevator, located in the lobby. Wheelchair-accessible washrooms are located on every floor. If you require assistance with your wheelchair or scooter, please let the box office staff know when you arrive and we would be happy to assist you.
There are a few places in the museum’s galleries where larger-than-standard-size scooters cannot be maneuvered. For more information, please speak to box office staff.

Service Dogs
The Royal BC Museum welcomes trained service dogs. Upon arrival at the museum please identify your service dog to a member of our admissions or security team.
Creating Connections Initiative
MyMuseum Program
The newest addition to the Creating Connections Initiative, the MyMuseum pilot program will run throughout 2025.
Through this program, new members of the City of Victoria’s LIFE Program will receive one complimentary ticket to the museum when they enrol. The program will act as a gateway to free museum entry for eligible low-income individuals and families, ensuring that they can experience the museum without any financial burden. Canoo
The Royal BC Museum participates in the Canoo Pass program, offering new Canadian citizens and permanent residents the invaluable opportunity to enjoy complimentary access to the museum. Through this initiative, the museum celebrates cultural diversity, fosters integration and provides a warm welcome to individuals who have recently arrived in Canada.
Access 2 Card and Leisure Assistant Pass
Through these programs, the museum provides complimentary museum admission (including to feature exhibitions) for a personal attendant to assist a visitor with a disability or any other special needs.
Discounted Admission
To ensure everyone has the opportunity to experience the museum at low or no cost throughout the year, the museum hosts Community Days each January for admission by donation.
Indigenous Access
The Royal BC Museum acknowledges its location on the traditional territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Xwsepsum). As a part of our commitment to ensuring equity, inclusion, diversity and accessibility, visitors identifying as Indigenous receive complimentary access to the museum during regular operating hours.
Sensory-Sensitive Screenings at IMAX® Victoria
The theatre offers monthly sensory-sensitive screenings, intended for guests who find the immersive IMAX® experience prohibitive. In addition to low lighting and low volume throughout, the doors are left open and movement and discussion during the film is not restricted. Group Booking
This program is designed to create captivating and memorable museum experiences tailored for various groups including BC grade schools, youth organizations, and those seeking therapeutic and sensory-friendly visits. We understand the importance of providing engaging and educational opportunities for students, and our program aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world exploration.
Learning Programs
The museum offers a range of enriching learning programs that you can enjoy and participate in even if you don’t live in Victoria. There is a huge library of free online recordings as well as outreach boxes that are available for classrooms anywhere in BC. Additionally, the Learning Portal lets you listen, watch and read all kinds of stories from the museum.
