Crayons and notebooks for a better tomorrow

Nine years ago this fall I went back to school and created a new life for myself. I am eternally grateful for what my life has become since then, and the opportunities education has given me. So earlier this afternoon I went out and bought two booktotes and some supplies to go in each. Cost me $32. Nothing, really. A few lunches at the cafeteria…a cheap night at the bar.  But for families struggling to cover the basics-food, shelter, clothing…school supplies are just not an option.  And there but for the grace of Deity go I.

Then I had a great big lightbulb. I decided to see if I could put to good use all those hours of my life I’ve wasted on the Internet. So here’s my challenge to you-LiveJournalers, Tweeps, Farkers, Kossacks and Facebookers:

If you are in a position to do so, if education has put you in a position to do so, donate two bookbags/backpacks and supplies to go in each.  A Google search for “school supply donations” returned about 1,930,000 results. I’m sure you can find an organization to accept your donation. Or if shopping just isn’t your thing, donate $32. Show me the power of the Internets for good. I dare you.
