Hello, I’m David.
I grew up in Norwich, England and have spent most of the past two decades living across Asia — in Beijing, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Kamakura. I now live in Munich and work in product management.
Randomwire has been running since 2003. It’s where I write about the places, people, and details that stay with me — architecture, pilgrimages, culture, and the occasional question about how we live with technology. Read about how the site has evolved over the years.
The Chinese characters in the logo (随线) literally translate to “random wire.” The name comes from a longer idiom — 随线放矢 (suí xiàn fàng shǐ) or 有的放矢 (yǒu dì fàng shǐ) — which means to act or speak with a clear aim in mind.
