Having one of my "up" periods no one ever believes me about, where I can't sleep for more than four hours at a time and am going to bed at 6am because I feel allergic to sleeping at night, and can't concentrate on anything for longer than ten seconds at a time. Sick. I hurt all over. I hurt just sitting here. My throat hurts like I have strep or something, and there are spots on my head that feel like I was hit by a baseball bat there, like they should be swollen and bruised but aren't. Michael says I've been going on a hunger strike, which I didn't realize, but I haven't been very hungry at all because of being sick. Don't know what I'm sick with, but I know I'm dehydrated. I guess the mucus isn't making it to my sinuses, it's just all going straight down. Drinking lots of honey-vanilla tea with more honey. We are I think hopefully going to go see the hobbit at some point.

anyone here who lives in Wyoming or knows someone in Wyoming? my sister is broken down in Casper (I have no idea why she is there) and could use some help, she is looking for a tow to get to tennessee because her nursing school program in Vanderbilt starts up soon. I have no idea what's wrong with her car, but while we are in wyoming we don't have a hitch and all of the stuff you need to be able to tow anything. If anyone can help I don't know how to repay you, im pretty broke but I can write a story for you or dedicate one in progress to whoever becomes my sister's guardian angel.

Stop donating to the Susan G Komen Foundation and please re-direct to Planned Parenthood. The SGK Foundation has caved to anti-womens-rights groups and has withdrawn their funding for women in poverty being able to get free mammograms and pap smears and other cancer related services at Planned Parenthood. Shame on SGK.

By way of someone else on livejournal I was shown this online journal entry about the subject of the social victimization of women, and I think it's worth linking to it. It reminded me of the situations endemic in all societies, where women are victimized in subtle ways you can't really notice until it hurts. It reminded me of people I know who have grown up in a cultural background where certain expectations of a woman that are listed in the article are more obvious.

It makes me sad. What really makes me sad is that it's true, these examples happen all the time.

women are raised being told by parents, teachers, media, peers, and all surrounding social strata that:

* it is not okay to set solid and distinct boundaries and reinforce them immediately and dramatically when crossed (“mean bitch”)
* it is not okay to appear distraught or emotional (“crazy bitch”)
* it is not okay to make personal decisions that the adults or other peers in your life do not agree with, and it is not okay to refuse to explain those decisions to others (“stuck-up bitch”)
* it is not okay to refuse to agree with somebody, over and over and over again (“angry bitch”)
* it is not okay to have (or express) conflicted, fluid, or experimental feelings about yourself, your body, your sexuality, your desires, and your needs (“bitch got daddy issues”)
* it is not okay to use your physical strength (if you have it) to set physical boundaries (“dyke bitch”)
* it is not okay to raise your voice (“shrill bitch”)
* it is not okay to completely and utterly shut down somebody who obviously likes you (“mean dyke/frigid bitch”)

It is NOT okay when a guy makes you uncomfortable. You listen to your instincts when they say you shouldn't be around a person, be they man or woman, old or young, friend or stranger, if you don't feel good about the situation, leave it. Your discomfort is far more important to deal with than their ego, so you get out and get safe, get comfortable, get back to your zone of feeling safe. Just because we've got breasts that lactate doesn't mean we have to put up with uncomfortable situations that are potentially dangerous to us.

EDIT: Just say, "I have to go, bye". It's as simple as that. Say that you need to go. If they can't respect that, then it's even more important to get away from them.

Europe has just lost over a thousand years of political evolution.

The moment of political unity, schemed for since the Rome Treaty in 1957, comes just as all the old problems of the European Continent, economic, political, religious and social, begin to re-emerge in new and tricky shapes.

We in Britain, like Ireland, have constantly been warned that by staying out we would miss the European train – always depicted as a luxury express bound for a pleasant destination and more or less under our control.

Now, as the whistle blows, the doors are locked and the Eurotrain at last jolts out of the station, we look around us and see threadbare seats and through grimy windows glimpse an unfamiliar and unpleasant landscape, and when we ask where we are going, the crew tell us that from now on, that is their business, not ours.

I don't really know how else to describe what's happened. The Lisbon Treaty is a good place for any of you to start finding out.

I feel like there's a funeral going on in my head. Apparently no one remembers that Rome was kind of a bad idea.

LHC spoof website via The Daily Grail.

A little something to screw with your coworkers.

Personally I find the risks to be almost comically exciting. That a science experiment has the veriest potential to destroy the entire planet, even the suggestion of it, though I don't believe it'll happen.

Of course, there have been experiments in the past that almost destroyed the planet. Out of my own university they thought they had made the perfect superbacteria against plastics, and almost released it before realizing how uncontrollable it was.

If anyone knows where to acquire an english translated text copy of Silva Gadelica by Standish Hayes O'Grady I would be most extremely grateful! Even the united libraries of the Pacific Northwest only have the Irish text, which is very depressing since I can't read Irish.

Everybody who's emailed me and comments and stuff -- this is a really busy week with things related to school and my mom and stuff, and I am brain dead and having to take a lot of weird stupid medicinal stuff to keep myself upright. I will try to reply to things tomorrow night, but I do mean to reply, I just don't trust what I've written to be coherent so need to wait and read what I say when I have a brain again.

Biofules worse for planet health? Interesting article, I listened to something on the subject last week, and it makes some sense to me. Basically it discusses the problem of getting the biofuel, the energy cost of making it and how we then have to fill up the gap - creating the biofuel can mean farmers doing that instead of raising food for mass market, which means having to go look for more places to find said food that's been replaced by making the biofuel. So it then becomes a question of whether the output from using the ethanol and the energy costs of getting it really do become more of a philosophers stone problem, where the gold we want costs more to make than the the actual gold.

(I am really sleepy and tired, so I will be slow going in replying to comments but I do read them all)

You're 6:49 a.m.

" You're the time of day right around sunrise, when the sky is still a pale bluish gray. The streets are empty, and the grass and leaves are a little bit sparkly with dew. You are the sound of a few chirpy birds outside the window. You are quiet, peaceful, and contemplative. If you move slowly, it's not because you're lazy – it's because you know there's no reason to rush. You move like a relaxed cat, pausing for deep stretches that make your muscles feel alive. You are long sips of tea or coffee (out of a mug that's held with both hands) that slowly warm your insides just as the sun is brightening the sky."
