About Sia/Raincloudmama

Sia Hoyt

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and spent the second half of my childhood in Eastern Ohio. In my young adult years I lived in rural Scotland, the high desert in Nevada and the Appalachian mountains, then went on to live in the Columbia River Valley of Southeastern WA state for 18 years. Now, after making some major health, lifestyle and relationship changes, I am building a new life in the Puget Sound with my (second) husband and our many precious, beloved children. With his 7, my 6, and our 2 together, we are navigating the new terrain of blended family dynamics, and doing our best to cultivate a healthy, thriving home with family, visitors, neighbors, and friends. We love building up community and a loving home and hearth. I believe Christ is the most important Visitor; He is in every single one of you!

“Raincloudmama”

“Raincloudmama” is the first username I chose for a personal Instagram account from the app’s early days. At the time, I was a homemaking, homeschooling mama of just a couple of adorable little boys, loving my new rainy climate and basking in the beauty around me: lush forests, gushing waterfalls, seeping moss, giant ferns, dripping stones, snowy volcanic mountains, green fields, abundant wildflowers… Winter after winter, I fell in love with the palette of the overcast skies above. I still live in the Pacific Northwest but I am now in the Puget Sound on a watery peninsula where I am making smaller, more detailed pieces of pottery, working on a new art show, and planning women’s retreats. I continue to be devoted to the interior life, and am forever-captivated by nature, place, and the ways they hold us through the seasons of life.

Spirituality/Faith

I’m a practicing Roman Catholic who also participates regularly in the Eastern rite through Byzantine Liturgy. I was raised by converts, baptized at a Dominican church at the age of 4 in Berkeley, CA, and am a seasonal daily Mass go-er. I love the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Our Lady Undoer of Knots, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help devotions, and I am continually inspired by the simple, hidden life of the Holy Family in Nazareth. I was introduced to Madonna House in Ontario, Canada when I was just 15 and was deeply influenced by Russian culture, apostolic farming, community living, and the spirituality and zeal of their foundress, Blessed Catherine Doherty. It was there I became passionate about putting into practice the doing of little things with great love.

Blessed to be a part of the extended Madonna House family, I’m also partaking in monthly Zoom meetings (when family life allows it). The Holy Family Apostolate within it, run by other folks/mentors in the MH family, has guided and nourished my family over the years. Madonna House continues to be a tremendous anchor in my life!
