The Presbyterianism emerged in the Protestant Reformation in the mid-sixteenth century. In Brazil the Presbyterian Church was founded in 1859 in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the American missionary Ashbel Green Simonton.
Today, the Presbyterian Church of Brazil, has more than 5,000 churches and about 1 million members.
