"Radio Nepal (रेडियो नेपाल) owned by the Nepal Government was established on 2 April 1951. The transmission initially ran for 4 hours and 30 minutes using a 250-watt SW transmitter. Over the years, Radio Nepal has significantly strengthened its institutional capacity and has diversified in terms of program format, technical efficiency, and coverage. Radio Nepal broadcasts programs on mid-wave and FM frequencies. The regular programming runs for 24 hours per day, with approximately 4 hours of programming beginning at 14:15 hrs. To 18:00 hrs. FM Kathmandu, the first FM Channel in Nepal covering the Kathmandu Valley and adjacent areas, commenced in 1995 from its premises in Singh Durbar, Kathmandu. Radio Nepal launched the first FM Channel in Nepal on the 30th Kartik 2052 B.S.(16th Nov.1995). The FM Channel airs programs on 100 MHz on the FM band through a 3 KW stereo transmitter installed at Khumaltar, Lalitpur. A fairly well-equipped studio with stereo facilities has been established at Singh Durbar. This studio along with the provision of a standby studio has made it possible to broadcast programs live. Radio Nepal has a policy of leasing out its airtime to private parties to broadcast programs on its FM channel by permitting private operators to use their own staff. These programs have proved to be very popular among the urban youth of Kathmandu. Radio Nepal has an exclusive strategic tie-up with NEW IT VENTURE CORPORATION, NITV (Leading OTT/IPTV development and consulting firm based in Japan - www.newitventure.com) to Develop an Advanced Digital Platform and Manage its Distribution in the worldwide (International) market through different online medium.
