Quarantine Coding: Computer Science Education at Home

We all know we’re living in a new and unprecedented time due to COVID-19 and various stay-at-home or shelter-in-place orders. One of the most difficult transitions for students and their families is having to adapt to remote/distance learning and quasi-homeschooling, as well as losing extracurriculars and hobbies students may have had after school or on weekends to fill their time and engage their interests.

To help fill this void, I have compiled resources and made activity plans to help students learn about technology and computing. I worked in computer science education and curriculum development with the Maryland Center for Women in Computing for 3 years and got a lot of questions from parents on how to get students interested in computing. Here is your answer, I suppose. 😊

If you aren’t already sold, check out some of the statistics from the Computer Science Education Week’s Why Computer Science?

Just FYI, the grade suggestions are estimates and may not be fully accurate! You can judge for yourself if your child would be interested and able to complete activities.
