R2DIO expands on Tom’s proven approach to making more reproducible measurements, designing more efficient experiments and scaling operations with more predictability.
In 2020, UC Berkeley invited Tom to turn his experience into an innovative curriculum for its process engineering students. The president of R&D at Amyris attributed a 50% reduction in product time-to-market to Tom’s methods – next-gen versions of which R2DIO is now making available at scale.
Tom was also Zymergen’s first Director of Test Operations and the founder of Treynor Consulting. Prior to his career in industry, Tom innovated high-throughput screening methods as a post-doctoral protein engineer at Caltech, received his Ph.D. in Biophysical Chemistry from Stanford, and earned a combined B.S./M.S. degree in Chemical Physics from Yale.
Dr. Li Kung, CTO
Li and Tom met when Ph.D. students at Stanford and bonded over their shared interest in helping teams accelerate the data-driven scaling of their innovations.
After entering industry as a scientist at Next-Gen Sequencing pioneer, Helicos, Li joined Gen9, a Boston-based DNA manufacturing company later acquired by Ginkgo Bioworks. As one of its first hires, Li established Gen9’s initial manufacturing workflow, innovated the algorithms required to build its DNA products and rose to become their Director of Informatics and Software.
Li received his Ph.D. from Stanford and A.B. from Harvard. Prior to R2DIO, Li left Ginkgo Bioworks to found Prismatic Beam Consulting, where he built software for synthetic biology and DNA sequencing companies. Each of these experiences shaped Li’s vision for R2DIO.
