Holy crap, y'all. This is the first time I've written a full-on fic in... well, I'm not even willing to say how long it's been. I was so out of practice that I had basically forgotten how to write. And for some inexplicable reason, I apparently thought this would be a swell time to pick up a prompt that was way outside my usual realm. (Or what used to be my usual realm, at any rate. It's been so long that I don't even have a realm anymore!) Ha. Hahahaha.
But! I pulled it off somehow! All things considered, I'm sure this isn't exactly the greatest thing I've ever written. But it's a FIC and it's DONE and I AM THRILLED! *\o/*

My wish was fulfilled in daily_deviant's Banging Birthday, and it is amazing!! *flail*
The Elite Programme by ??? Rufus Scrimgeour/Alastor Moody NC-17; ~5,700 words Abjfahipcaf, OMG, where has this fic been all my fandom life?! This is young Rufus and Alastor meeting for the first time as new recruits in the Elite Auror training program, and everything about it is brilliant.
The young versions of these characters here are just so perfectly them. Or rather, they're perfectly not them -- not yet. They haven't grown into the "them" that we know from canon, but the raw materials are so clearly there. The backstories the author has created for them are absolutely ingenious, and the dynamic that develops between them is electric.
This entire thing is gorgeously written, wonderfully developed, and topped with a seriously knuckle-biting consummation scene. I could pick apart all the subtleties and fantastic bits for days, but... just go read it! Go give it the love it deserves.
So. Today, those of us in the U.S. are watching a historic launch on a backdrop of massive civil unrest. I feel like I went to sleep in 2020 and woke up in 1969.
Except I'm not quite sure where COVID-19 fits in, since that's more of an 1918 thing.
I've been wanting to check in for a while and ask how everyone's holding up. You all still okay out there, even though we have a pandemic in full swing? I know a lot of folks who are vulnerable or have loved ones who are vulnerable, and it's making me want to reach out and try to get in touch with basically everyone I've had any connection with in the last fifteen years. Argh.
Personally, I'm probably doing better than most. Work-wise, I've been deemed "essential personnel," so my paycheck is unaffected. (Plus my workplace has been on a pretty tight lockdown with few people allowed into my workspace -- although that's about to end, so that's a bit worrisome.) And I'm a pro at this "social distancing" thing, since I rarely go anywhere unnecessary in the best of times. :P
I've been lucky so far, all things considered. But lately I just keep feeling like I've gained a much deeper understanding of the meaning of that old curse. "Interesting times," indeed. It just keeps getting more "interesting" by the day. Oof.
So, yeah, how are all of you doing? Drop a quick note and let me know you're still hanging in there.
Prompt claiming is now OPEN! Members get a 24 hour head start; claiming opens to watchers at noon U.S. Eastern time tomorrow. Click the banner to check out the list of wishes and decide which one you want to snag!
In related news... There's a prompt that I'm reeeeeally tempted to pick up. But I haven't managed to write anything in so long that I'm afraid I'd totally fail to deliver. I'm thinking I'll leave it alone for a while, and of no one else snatches it up pretty soon... maybe... I'll grab it...?
Click the banner to visit daily_deviant and read more details... and come back this weekend to snag a prompt!
Huge thanks to mywitch for providing the fun, festive, and filthy art for these banners! The fig leaves are entirely my fault. If you want to see the original art sans fig leaves and text (and of course you do!), click here. :D
And drop by Daily Deviant this weekend to grab a Banging Birthday prompt!
Fine Line by snax0 Severus/Sirius; NC-17; 620ish words This ficlet was written in response to a prompt I dropped into Kinky Kristmas: Comment Kink, and let me tell you, this is everything I could have wanted from the prompt and then some. Essentially, I asked for "desperate, need-it-now sex" and tossed in "Things are different in the afterlife." And snax0 turned it into something fantastic. There's so much in so few words. There are fab little bits of characterization, intriguing hints of a shared history, and of course, it's hot like burning. I think what strikes me the most about it, though, is how incredibly vivid it is. It really feels like a hot, sweaty, sticky, disheveled mess in the best possible way.
Kinky Kristmas: Comment Kink is still ongoing! Click HERE to go to the Week 3 Roundup post and browse the list of pieces that have appeared so far. And remember, it only takes 200 words or a quick sketch to participate. There's still time to check out the remaining prompts and see if anything grabs you!
Although Comment Kink is still underway, we've also gotten the ball rolling on Banging Birthday. For those unfamiliar with how BB works, there's a general information post HERE. Prompt claiming will take place on January 25-26, so be sure not to miss out!

The event kicks off at noon U.S. Eastern time on Sunday, December 15! And remember -- we're officially on DreamWidth now! That means you don't need to have an IJ -- or even a DW account -- to participate. Commenting with OpenID and anonymous commenting will be enabled for Kinky Kristmas.
It only takes 200 words of fic or a sketch equivalent to play. No huge, time-consuming commitment; just quick and (very) dirty comment pr0n. Everyone's invited to the orgy party!
