For ease of writing/reading for anyone who gives a crap, I'll break it down into sub segments and then give my overall 'score' at the end.
MUSIC
OK, so if you know me well enough, this will be the first thing that I will ALWAYS talk about. Even more so because it is the best part of my year for 2008. I discovered and was shown some amazing music this year - Some of my Favorites for the year are (and they may not have been released in 2008 but I am including them as they were first heard by me in 2008 so DEAL WITH IT);
OSI - Free
This one tops my list for so many reasons. It's amazingly written, will suit almost any mood I'm in, is different from almost everything I have in my collection and is just generally a great album. It's given me a broader appreciation of production styles and electronic music, and even prompted me to get off my ass and do some writing of my own on a couple of occasions. It takes a bloody good album to inspire me to write, so this one get a triple thumbs up (I don't know where the 3rd thumb is coming from, all I know is it's there).
Peter Breiner - The Beatles Go Baroque.
Yes, as the Title may suggest, it is an album of Beatles songs performed in the styles of Bach, Vivaldi and Handel. the arrangements and performances on this CD are almost breathtaking at points, and he depth of emotion and expression are incredible. It's amazing what a swung pulse on some violins and some staccato notes can do as used in the rendition of She Loves You and Yellow Submarine, compared to the long sullen notes and melody lines on The Long & Winding Road, Fool on the Hill and, what is probably my favorite, She's Leaving Home. My Classical and Baroque collection tripled after buying this CD.
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia, Deadwing, Warszawa, On The Sunday Life, Lightbulb Sun and LIVE @ the Metro April 25th.
I've Loved Porcupine Tree for quite some time before these albums, but it wasn't until I saw them live at the Metro on 25th April this year that I really appreciated what AMAZING musicians they really are. Warszawa is getting the highest rotation in my listening for the year, by a MILE. They always make me happy :)
Dream Theater - LIVE @ Festival Hall 29th Jan
This one speaks for itself. I love this band, and I finally got to see them live. I was almost going to give these guys show of the year award but Porcupine tree won on this one!
CAFE MEDULA - Mother and Push & Play and LIVE @ the ESPY
So we FINALLY got off our asses and recorded some proper songs in a proper studio with a proper tech and bla bla bla you get the idea. You can have a listen to these tracks @ http://www.myspace.com/cafemedula .We've been doing some great gigs too - highlight being the Espy Front bar on a Thursday night. that was a great show!
All in all Music gets a shining 8.5/10. thank you 2008
EDUCATION
This year was a fairly educational non-event for me. I finished my second year of my bachelor - I guess you could say it's important but I didn't really feel I got a great deal out of it this year. Here's hoping next year brings some more fruitful study. And if not, a better job! haha.
My results for the year, for anyone who was curious, are as follows;
Group: [SM1] (Semester 1) MUZ266 ACCOUNTING FOR DECISION MAKING CR 68 MUZ141 INSTRUMENTAL STUDIES 1 DI 71 MUZ261 MUSIC INDUSTRY STUDIES 3 HD 80 MUZ252 NEGOTIATED PROJECT 1 DI 74 MUZ265 SPECIAL EVENT MANAGEMENT DI 72 Group: [SM2] (Semester 2) MUZ142 INSTRUMENTAL STUDIES 2 CR 67 MUZ166 LAW (MUSIC INDUSTRY) DI 72 MUZ262 MUSIC INDUSTRY STUDIES 4 HD 80 MUZ253 NEGOTIATED PROJECT 2 HD 81 MUZ164 WORKPLACE COMMUNICATION DI 74
Despite the good results, I'm going to give Education a 6.5/10, and hope that this score is better for 2009.
Social/Love
Socially It's been a pretty good year. Good times with good friends when I had the time. But because I always seemed to be SUPER BUSY I never really got much chance to go out. but thats OK, the time I spent with people I did enjoy mostly. As for the "L" word, nothing happening on this side... no prospects, no dates, no boyfriends etc. I had a couple of silly crush's but they weren't ever going to go anywhere.
This part gets a 7/10 from me. I love my friends and spending time with them, but sometimes I get soooooo lonely. hopefully something picks up in 2009.
Health/Fitness
2008 will be forever remembered for me as the year that Amy was perpeptually sick and/or broken. If It wasn't a tension headache, a migraine, the flu, a cold, anemic, unable to talk, unable to walk, unable to work, train, wonded, broken, whatever you can fucking throw at me, it was something else. I did my best to press on through with it, some days were alot tougher than others. Rocking up to classes and work without being able to see properly, trying to keep my fitness up with a buggered ankle, the weight fluctuaions because of the inconsistency in my diet and training because of all the feelin like crap and all that - I tried SO hard to just press on through. sometimes it paid off, others really should have just rested. Numerous doctors appoinments with several doctors, blood tests, diagnosis and no atual solutions later, It's time to try a differet approach and see a naturopath and a nutitionist. My Fitness, despite the aforementioned bumps, is getting much better. I still love playing netball, my stamina is getting better, I can run further and faster than I could before. I'm still a bit of a beefer but hey, not much I can do about genetics, right?
8/10. For the hard work, and pressing through when I could. FEEL THE BURN.
Work
Still at Myer. 6/10. It is picking up as we speak though. It could even be an 8 by the actual end of the year if things keep going the way they are going.
All The Other Stuff
Umm, I can't really think of anything else I haven't included... of everything people ask me about: Music - Check. Love - Check. Work - Check. Gym - Check.
I'll update this is I think of anything else to add.
2008, overall, was a fairly average year. If I add thing sup and stuff, I'm guessing I would give it about a 7/10. Not as pitiful as I told Tomo earlier but still not as amazing as I hoped it would be.
Oh well, ON TO 2009!
What will it bring? in summary;
- More Training at the gym and becoming a sexy sexy lady - Final year of my degree - Bachelor of Applied Business in Music Industry - More than likely will undertake my Cert IV in Fitness by correspondance - Cafe Medula Goodness
How did your year shape up?
