'Creative Data Manipulation"
A break from the past week of algorithmic trading, more of a usual hackathon style where you spend the day building an MVP!
Project Ideas
invent a brand new statistic for a domain that doesn't have one. Elo ratings for restaurants based on head-to-head Yelp review text
finding a dataset and compressing it as aggressively as possible while preserving the ability to answer a set of questions
meta-project: instrument the hackathon itself. Track commit frequency, Slack activity, caffeine consumption, ambient noise levels, and build a live dashboard predicting which team will win based on their work patterns
apply survival/hazard models to something absurd: how long until a TikTok trend dies, how long a new restaurant lasts in NYC, time-to-first-bug in a GitHub repo
take two completely unrelated public datasets (e.g., earthquake magnitudes and Spotify top charts) and find the most compelling (or absurd) spurious correlations
