This year, QCBT has decided to look close to home for our hackathon topic. Smart cities are classified as modern urban areas that leverage data and tech to improve the quality of life of their citizens. Think tap on/tap off public transit instead of digging in your bag for change, or sensors that track how busy traffic is at a given time so you know when to leave.

These technologies are seen everywhere in bigger cities like Toronto or Ottawa, but sparse in less urban areas.

Judging Criteria

  • Idea Development
This will evaluate how well your idea is presented in your DevPost submission. To excel, think about if your submission builds a "total picture" of your project, i.e. would someone who reads it over have any additional questions?
  • User Interface (UI) and Visual Organization
This will evaluate the flow of your user interface design. Is it inviting and interesting? Is the function obvious to the user or is it complicated?
  • Evidence of Research
This will showcase that you researched your solution and have ensured that it is feasible to implement in a smart city and that it is an improvement.
  • Visual Appeal
This will evaluate your graphic communication skills through the visual design of the solution.
