I think I made a comeback as a J-drama fan at the wrong time 🤔

Or to look at it another way, I think I'm pining after the wrong dramas at the wrong time. Let me explain, J-dramas is my other main source of entertainment besides anime and games back when I was a university student around 2012 to 2017. Then, I became a working adult and I just didn't have the time and mood for J-dramas anymore...

During the years that I was properly into J-drama, I actually watched a lot of dramas from the mid-2000s mainly Mop Girl, Tantei Gakuen Q, Handsome Suit, you get the idea. There's just something about dramas from this era that I'm particularly fond of but I can't really put my finger on it. However, I did find some of my favourites from the 2010s such as NazoDi and Akumu-chan (though I guess Kitagawa Keiko had a huge role in my love of those dramas). Oh yeah, Kazoku Game is also one of my favourites of all time.

And then in early 2020s, I managed to complete dramas such as Gokushufudou, He Who Can't Marry, Kotaro-kun Lives Alone and Life's Punchline in the little free time that I had. Anyway, back then - especially when I was a student - I didn't really care about the quality of the video though I did get lucky with mainly Mop Girl and NazoDi since I remember actually watching the dramas in pretty good quality (especially for NazoDi, it was HD). So, I wasn't particularly bothered with the video quality just as long as I could watch it back then.

However, everything changed when I watched my first C-drama (LBFAD) last year. To top it off, I was watching LBFAD on Netflix using a stable WiFi connection and that experience made me realized that I should go for HD for each and every drama/movie that I am watching. Now, to the crux of the problem, it irks me that I can't easily get the J-dramas that I want in HD as easily as I can get C-dramas in HD. But then I realized that I might have been chasing after the wrong J-dramas at the wrong time...I believe it would have been easier for me to get Atashinchi no Danshi and Mei-chan no Shitsuji in HD during the time they were at their peak popularity just as easily as I could get the recent C-dramas in HD nowadays.

Unfortunately, my brain and heart are currently pining hard for mid-2000s J-dramas in HD which are pretty hard to come by nowadays. (HanaKimi did this to me... I've just finished watching the whole series in HD 😭)

TL;DR - I want to watch Atashinchi no Danshi and Mei-chan no Shitsuji in HD. Does anyone know where I can get them in HD, preferably 720p/1080p? I'm okay with RAWs as well.

I wish I could understand the Japanese language...

Yesterday was my day off from work. Normally I would be out and about grocery shopping for my family or hang out in the city with my sister if she's back at home for the weekend. However, there wasn't anything to go out grocery shopping for...and my sister is busy with her work so she couldn't even visit, yet alone to stay over for the weekend.

So there I was spending the whole day at home, doing the laundry, having breakfast, lunch and dipper (dinner+supper) with my parents and scrolling on my phone.
Since I've been searching a lot of SUPER EIGHT (formerly known as Kanjani8) stuff recently, YouTube algorithm provides me a lot of video clips of them in the recommendations and most of them were either not subbed or subbed in another language (mainly Korean).

Having been exposed to the Japanese media at a young age and after years of watching them on and off throughout the years, I find myself able to understand a bit of the context of whatever video I was watching that wasn't subbed. However, I wish I can understand fully what I was watching...and that just made me frustrated for a good chunk of yesterday. Not to mention that I'm currently craving to see more of Kanjani8 Chronicle episodes but a lot of what I found were not subbed, unfortunately. I do intent to watch them even without the subtitles though. It's just that the frustration will probably come again.

Which makes me wonder if I should learn Japanese just so I could watch my favourite shows without relying on subtitles. It is a rather interesting idea, seeing as how I felt like I have stagnated in life in recent years. I feel like I should learn a new language just to get the gears in my head going. At least then, I would be able to pick up a new skill and would reach beyond my current capabilities.
Anyway, this is just my rant post. I'm still working on a few other posts, mainly about the dramas that I've watched. That's all for now, see you all later
