Ecological Dynamics Coaching: Foundations

The Ecological Dynamics Approach To Coaching Tennis: Foundations course is a 5-7 hour course, designed for coaches who want to move beyond traditional technique-driven instruction and develop a deep, modern understanding of how players actually acquire and adapt skill in tennis. Grounded in ecological dynamics, this course explores skill acquisition as an interactive process shaped by the athlete, the task, and the environment.

Coaches will learn how perception, action, and decision-making are tightly coupled in real match play—and how effective practice design can harness these relationships to accelerate learning. Emphasis is placed on representative learning environments, manipulation of constraints, and designing practices that promote exploration, adaptability, and transfer to competition.

Throughout the course, coaches will examine how movement solutions emerge rather than being prescribed, and how variability, creativity, and problem-solving are essential features of skilled tennis performance. Practical applications include designing constraints-led practices, guiding discovery without over-instruction, and aligning feedback with learning intentions rather than technical checklists.
