$1,000 Merit Awards – Pre-Registration Required

Project Steno is proud to offer two significant incentive awards—each valued at $1,000—to recognize the dedication and achievement of aspiring stenographers:

  • The James T. DeCrescenzo 140-in-1 Merit Award

  • The James T. DeCrescenzo 225-in-2 Merit Award

How to Qualify

Step 1: Pre-Register
Download our pre-registration form here. Complete the form and submit it within 30 days of beginning your steno education.
(This form is intended for newly enrolled students.)

Step 2: Stay Responsive
Maintain timely communication with Project Steno. This is a key eligibility requirement and is taken very seriously.

Step 3: Achieve the Speed Milestone

  • Reach 140 words per minute (wpm) within one year to earn the 140-in-1 Merit Award.

  • Reach 225 wpm within two years to earn the 225-in-2 Merit Award.

Upon achieving one or both of these milestones, download our application here, submit it to us within 30 days of passing your speed, and we’ll award you $1,000 for each accomplishment.

$2,500 Finlayson Fellow Award

The Finlayson Fellowship is made at the discretion of Project Steno in association with the San Antonio Bar Foundation.   

The Finlayson Fellowship will award $2,500 to a court reporting student (or recent grad!) with an interest and aptitude for a career as a San Antonio court reporting professional. The court reporting students will join three law students, three undergraduate students, and a paralegal student to form a cohort of eight Fellows who agree to meet monthly (virtual meetings) with San Antonio mentors.
