WordPress Origin Story

When I went to Web development school we started working with basic HTML, no CSS, in NotePad. Eventually we moved up to Dreamweaver and (gasp!) FrontPage. We all know how that last bit went. Over the years I have developed over 400 sites, primarily with Dreamweaver and incorporated all the latest tricks and tips. These included fluid and responsive sites.

The Web biz has gone from do-it-yourself to hire-a-consultant back to do-it-yourself and then to hire-somebody-to-set-it-up-so-you-can-do-it-yourself. I “converted” from Dreamweaver to WordPress to build client sites because I can make far better sites with less effort. My WordPress sites can do just about anything, and when they are on a reliable host they work perfectly every time. Sure, I still use Dreamweaver to write a little special CSS or HTML, but outside of that it is WordPress all the way.

The best thing is that if the client wants to work on the site herself, or himself, that’s fine. If he or she prefers me to do it, that’s fine, too. I can do better work much quicker than ever before.

Now that I am retired I use WordPress for my own site and it is a knockout if I do say so myself. And, I “keep my hand in” by assisting certain not-for-profits, all of whom I have using WordPress.
