My first time speaking, attending or participating in a meetup or WordCamp event was in 2011, at Orange County’s 2nd annual WordCamp. I spoke on BuddyPress and I was brand new to the community. I was very excited for the opportunity and I fell in love with the people in the community and started attending the OCWP Meetups, which ran twice a month. I met a group of awesome, talented, super smart people that were just as excited about WordPress as I was, and I became a frequent presenter at many Southern California WordPress Meetups and started getting accepted to speak at WordCamps. I accepted a position as Media Temple’s WordPress Evangelist and have been loving it for the past year. To date, I have given 23 talks at WordCamps and over 50 talks at local Meetups, and I am continually looking for ways to educate the public about WordPress.
