MTConnect
MTConnect ® is simply an open source communications protocol that allows for greater data interoperability between manufacturing equipment and 3rd party software.
The MTConnect standard provides the ability to collect and harvest data from all manufacturing hardware on the shop floor. Shop owners and operators can then use that data to gain detailed, consistent insights into their overall equipment effectiveness (O.E.E).
A network connection is required.
Why MTConnect?
A modern shop floor contains many types of manufacturing devices and equipment that may each support different data communication protocols or none at all. This diversity of data communication protocols has made if difficult for shop owners to collect and monitor their data efficiently.
The MTConnect protocol was developed to serve as a single data communications protocol for all manufacturing devices and equipment on the shop floor. Think of the MTConnect protocol as a common language for all shop floor equipment to communicate with each other, that in turn provides consistent, reliable data flows into machine monitoring systems so shop owners can monitor and act on their data efficiently.

It’s important to assess your equipment’s capability to communicate data. Most modern manufacturing equipment is MTConnect ready, meaning little work is required to enable MTConnect as the default data communication protocol.
Equipment that is provided with native MTConnect functionality does not require additional software components or functions to enable MTConnect communication. Equipment that is not provided with MTConnect functionality requires a separate function (software) to translate the data from the native device communication into MTConnect compliant data
MTConnect on a Hurco Machine
Hurco uses the MTConnect protocol to retrieve manufacturing data directly from WinMax on a Hurco machine, allowing users to monitor their machining data remotely.
